StoneCrabs Theatre is inviting young Islanders to get creative this autumn with a new series of free drama groups designed to spark imagination and confidence.
The company hopes to inspire the next generation of theatre-makers through its ‘Off Book’ projects, which will run at libraries in Sandown and Ryde.
Drama takes over Sandown Library
Workshops for 13 to 18-year-olds will take place at Sandown Library on Tuesday evenings from 11th November.
Young people will help transform the library into ‘Nevermore’ – a new production inspired by the hit Netflix series Wednesday and the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
Relaxed auditions will be held on 11th November at 5.30pm, with weekly rehearsals continuing until 24th March.
StoneCrabs welcomes everyone, whether they are experienced performers or completely new to theatre. Those who prefer working behind the scenes can also get involved in production and backstage roles.
Register for Wednesday Production.
Confidence-building for younger participants
Children aged 8 to 12-years-old can join weekly sessions at Ryde Library every Wednesday from 5pm to 6.30pm, starting 5th November.
These workshops use drama games, storytelling and creative play to help children invent characters, act out adventures, and build confidence while making friends. They will also work towards a public performance.
Register for weekly drama sessions.
Encouraging creativity through libraries
The project is supported by Connecting Libraries, delivered by Creative Island in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council’s Library Service.
It aims to expand the cultural role of Island libraries and introduce new audiences to creative opportunities.
By taking part, young people will develop teamwork, quick thinking, and communication skills – qualities that are valuable beyond the stage.
Professional experience and school outreach
StoneCrabs Theatre is also running taster sessions in Island schools and encourages schools to get in touch to take part.
The company has staged productions across the UK and internationally, with extensive experience in nurturing young talent through programmes such as Directors in Practice.
Parents or guardians interested in signing up their children can find the online registration forms.
