Celebrating local literary talent: Book now for 2026 Isle of Wight Writers Jamboree

The second Isle of Wight Writers Jamboree, an annual get-together of Island writers is almost upon us.

Writing is, for the most part, a solitary pursuit, this is a chance for all writers to come together, meet, celebrate and check in with each other.

Held in the lovely surrounds of the Island Sailing Club in Cowes on the 9th February from 6pm – 9pm.

As well as a jolly, this is also an opportunity to hear briefly from various sources who can paint a broad picture of the Island’s cultural landscape focusing on what opportunities there may be for Island based writers, here, across the southern region and nationwide.

Who will be there
Organised by Medina Bookshop in collaboration with Creative Island and their talent development programme the IW Creative Network, there will also be representatives from the likes of Naked Figleaf Press, Brevity, Lemon Jelly and other groups and organisations showcasing Island literary talent.

Representatives from Hampshire’s Artful Scribe will also be on hand to give a perspective of what’s happening over the water.

There will be information on various activities including the search for an Isle of Wight Poet Laureate, the ‘CAN YOU HEAR US‘ celebration of culture, this year’s IW Book Awards and both the Story and Literary Festival.

Armfield: A chance to just meet and chat and hear about things of interest
The event’s founder, Paul Armfield, from Medina Bookshop said,

“We cherish our local writers, for the past three years our top ten best-selling books have been written by Island authors or had some Island content.

“In 2024 we were pleased to work alongside the IW Literary Festival to create several opportunities for Island writers to be a part of the festival, and one of the unexpected benefits was just how happy writers were to be meeting each other, so we thought why not create an opportunity for just that.

“This is not a commercial opportunity, no-one will be selling their wares, presentations are kept brief, this is a chance to just meet and chat and hear about things of interest.”

Last year’s inaugural event attracted over 100 writers and this year’s event looks set to be even more popular.

Everyone is welcome, you don’t have to be published, wherever you are on your journey as a writer there will be something of interest and benefit.
