The Society’s chair, Lesley Telford, said

“We are excited about this new book, which gives a unique window on Ventnor’s past and shows the value of our historical archive.

“It will make an ideal Christmas present for anyone with an interest in local history.”

She also thanked the volunteers who made it possible to produce the book.

Paul Kingswell, a member of the Vectis Postcard Club and a volunteer at Ventnor Heritage Centre, said,

“Postcards have always had an important role to play as a social history artefact.

“As a prominent seaside resort in the Golden Age of postcards in the early 20th century, Ventnor was the subject of literally thousands of cards, whether of local events by local photographers or more general views by local and national publishers.

“This selection gives a snapshot of life and times in and around the town from the early 1900s through to the 1970s.”

Where to buy it
The book will on sale for £6.50 (plus postage) through the Society’s online shop or for £6.50 in the Ventnor Heritage Centre.

It can also be purchased at the Society’s monthly talks on 27th October (‘The good old days? Life on the Island not that long ago’) and 24th November (‘The Almost Magic Lantern Show’).
