Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South returns to Channel 5 for second series

Last updated:

TV show Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South will be back for a second series next Thursday. (1 February)

The documentary series, which launched last year on Channel 5, led to a welcome tourism boost as viewers booked up holidays to the Island.

New four-part series
Now it’s back for a four-part series, narrated by Alan Titchmarsh, and will be bringing some much needed sunshine – having been filmed last summer.

In this series celebrating the Isle of Wight’s breathtaking natural beauty and rich historical heritage, the show will follow the lives of residents whose families have lived on the Island for generations, as well as newcomers.

The series will feature the wonders of the Isle of Wight’s iconic chalk white cliffs, pristine beaches and picture postcard villages.

Ice-cream
In the first episode, it’s summer on the Isle of Wight, and in Cowes, local ice cream producers and sisters Louise Hart and Jenny Simmons, are rolling out a brand-new flavour for the season – and hoping to melt hearts at one of the biggest events in the Island’s calendar – The Royal Isle of Wight County Show.

Alpacas
Near the historic town of Yarmouth, owners Neil and Michelle Payne gave up their day jobs to follow their dream and set up their alpaca walking business; now, in need of more alpacas, it’s time for the animals to get down to business and procreate – but will love blossom when Flossy meets her new beau Luca? And it’s all hands to the pump to help pregnant alpaca Lesley-Anne as she goes into labour and needs help giving birth.

Sailing
It’s all hands on the deck for sailor Libby Finch and her crew on their yacht Nightjar, as they compete against 1100 other boats in the iconic Round the Island Race, a gruelling fifty nautical mile course beginning and ending in Cowes, which will test them – and their boat – to the limits.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Amateur inventor Nick Pointing unveils his Chitty Chitty Bang Bang creation, which he built for his wife, which is perfect for pootling around the Island.

Ecologist Jamie Marsh and a group of dedicated volunteers race against time and tide to gather thousands of precious seagrass seeds needed to repopulate the depleted seagrass meadow.

Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South starts on Thursday 1st February at 8pm on Channel 5.
