Letter: Sir Keir Starmer faces criticism for lacklustre engagement with working people

The optics are not looking particularly good for Sir Keir Starmer.

Why do I say that? Well, all one need do is look at the faces of the people instructed to stand around him whenever he makes a pronouncement, like during the recent US-UK trade deal he presented at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in the West Midlands [not the one pictured above].

The work force are not exactly smiling, or cheering.

The expression on their faces says it all.

“Do I really need to be here listening to this guy?”

If you are popular, if you are delivering, if you are genuinely in touch with working people, then you don’t need to artificially orchestrate such events, they really don’t fool anyone.

They simply make you look weak, ineffectual and out of touch.
