Choirs and audience at the totland concert

Newchurch Male Voice Choir hosts Tamworth visitors for Totland concert

The Newchurch Male Voice Choir had the pleasure of welcoming and presenting a concert with Tamworth Ladies Choir and the Mercian Singers in Christ Church, Totland.

With a large audience the choirs each performed their programme of songs to the enjoyment of the audience.

Making rain with hands and feet
There was an interesting audience participation when the Tamworth Musical Director, Helen Griffiths explained, and enthusiastically  demonstrated, the Rain Song, as this was ‘sung’ just using the palms of your hands and the fingers to bring the sound of rain forming, and the drizzling, then pouring, and then, with stamping of feet, Thunder. This very unusual item was happily received by all.

A shared finale
The finale brought all three choirs together singing You’ll Never Walk Alone.

A retiring collection was held for the benefit of the charity Sophie’s Legacy. The charity supports families who have children staying in hospital with their personal needs that so easily get forgotten.

Cooper: Extremely well received
Bob Cooper for the Newchurch MVC said,

“It was a pleasure to receive the request from the Tamworth Ladies Choir that during their visit to the Island for us to sing together. We must thank Christ Church for hosting the concert. This unique event, with three variations on Choir singing in the same concert was extremely well received.

“Such an event supporting the smaller charities who do such fine work is the Choirs way of saying thank you for being there. We will be donating around £650 to Sophie’s Legacy.”
