Children and young people across the Isle of Wight can look forward to a festive season filled with fun as the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme returns.
The Isle of Wight Council scheme runs throughout the school holidays and offers a wide range of free activities, from football and farm visits to creative workshops and soft play.
Each session includes a nutritious meal and snacks to support children during the winter break.
The Department for Education funds the programme and opens it to children who receive benefits-related free school meals, with extra places available for families who may need support.
Island-wide offer
This year, the programme provides more than 1,230 places across Newport, Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Cowes and East Cowes.
Trusted local providers are hosting sessions in each area to give families easy access to holiday support.
The list includes CM Sports, Connect IOW, The Holt, Island Riding Centre, Premier School Sport Coaching and The Starlight Academy in Newport and West Wight, along with John Cattle Skate Club.
In Ryde, Aspire Ryde’s Soft Play and Creative Hub feature, as well as Easel Peasels at Goose Island, LJR football and multi-sports coaching at St Mary’s Primary, and PSSC at Dover Park Primary.

Brading: Every child deserves the chance to enjoy the holidays
Councillor Paul Brading, chair of the children’s services, education and skills committee, says,
“The HAF programme is a lifeline for many families during the festive season.
“It’s not just about keeping children entertained, it’s about making sure they’re safe, well-fed, and included. Every child deserves the chance to enjoy the holidays, and this initiative helps make that possible.”
He adds,
“I’m incredibly proud of the providers and volunteers who give their time and energy to create such a welcoming and enriching environment.
“From creative arts to football and farm visits, there’s something for everyone. I encourage families to explore what’s on offer and take part in this fantastic community effort.”
