Isle of Wight residents can help shape the future of community food growing through a new joint initiative.
The Isle of Wight Food Partnership, Isle of Wight Council and the IW Biosphere Steering Committee invite residents to take part in the Community Growing Survey.
Mapping growing spaces and future needs
The survey will map existing community growing spaces across the Island. It also identifies spare capacity, future needs and opportunities for people and groups to collaborate.
Organisers want to connect individuals, community gardens, allotments, businesses and parish councils that have an interest in growing food.
They also want to hear from people who are not yet involved but would like to be, especially if they have access to land.
Residents can take part until early January
Residents can complete the survey until 5th January 2026.
After this date, partners will convene a meeting to share the results and agree on practical next steps for the year ahead.
This work follows strong interest at the Environment and Sustainability Forum, where attendees showed a desire to explore knowledge-sharing and future joint funding bids.
Enthusiasm from across the Island
Katy Hurd, Environment and Biosphere Community Coordinator at the Isle of Wight Council, said,
“We were thrilled to see such enthusiasm from our Island residents with regard to community growing and look forward to building a stronger, more resilient local food system together, based on the findings of this survey.”
Feedback gathered through the survey will guide efforts to support a more sustainable and connected local food network.
