PoTS Awareness Day: Join the community by lighting up purple buildings

Islander Gabrielle Atkins (pictured below) calls on businesses and community groups to light their buildings purple on Saturday 25th October 2025 for PoTS Awareness Day.

She aims to raise understanding of cardiac dysautonomia, which includes conditions such as Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS).

Why purple matters
PoTS UK uses purple as its awareness colour, so purple lighting will signal support across the Isle of Wight.

Participants can also share photos on social media with the hashtag #LightUpForPoTSUK to extend the campaign’s reach.

What PoTS involves
PoTS affects the autonomic nervous system and can disrupt everyday activities.

People with PoTS can struggle when they stand up because their bodies do not adjust to gravity in the usual way.

Awareness and impact
Low awareness often delays diagnosis and increases the burden on daily life.

Greater recognition can lead to faster support, better management and a more inclusive community.

Those who want a clear introduction can watch a short explainer video.

How to take part
Island venues can switch external lights to purple on 25th October and let customers and followers know why they joined in.

Shanklin Theatre and Victoria Lodge Hotel are already signed up to light their buildings purple.
