Ryde and Sandown Beach Lifeguard Services report busy summer

The Beach Lifeguard Services in Ryde and Sandown have completed another successful summer season, with Lifeguarding officially coming to an end on Sunday 31st August.

Throughout the summer Lifeguards have been working hard putting preventative measures in place, advising water safety and attending various incidences.

A busy summer
Lifeguards have dealt with casualty care, first aids, missing children and rescues from the sea.

As well as providing members of public with access to their accessible Beach Wheelchairs, which has seen more popularity this year.

Additionally the Lifeguards delivered their drowning prevention programme ‘Sea Safe’ to local schools, with over 500 children participating.

Miller: Continue to take care and be aware of the dangers
Beach Manager, Todd Miller, said,

“I would like to thank all of our Lifeguards and Beach Safety for their great work this summer, as well as the excellent support we continue to receive from the emergency services.

“We are advising people to continue to take care and be aware of the dangers.

“Check the weather conditions and tide times and consider your capabilities, if in doubt it is better to stay dry and watch the sea than take the risk.

“Ensure you carry a means of contact such as a mobile phone, if you get into trouble or see anyone else in difficulty call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
