Ryde Neighbourhood Board is looking for an inspiring new Independent Chair to help lead one of the town’s biggest regeneration opportunities in a generation.
The voluntary leadership role offers the chance to guide the delivery of Ryde’s ambitious ten-year Vision and oversee investment of up to £19.5 million through the Government’s Pride in Place programme.
Ryde is one of 244 communities across the UK selected to receive Government investment to help create stronger communities, thriving places and give local people a greater say in shaping their future.
This work is being led by Ryde Neighbourhood Board working closely with Isle of Wight Council, the local East Wight MP, Ryde Town Council, local residents, businesses and community organisations.
A ten-year Vision backed by Government investment
The Board is now inviting expressions of interest in the Independent Chair’s role from people with a genuine passion for Ryde and a commitment to helping the town realise its full potential.

We are looking for an exceptional individual who can provide strategic leadership to the Board and ensure the programme continues to be community-led, driven by local priorities and delivers lasting benefit for the town.”
What the role involves
The Chair will act as an ambassador for Ryde helping bring people together, champion the town locally and nationally and ensure the Board remains community-led, transparent and focused on delivering its long-term ambitions.
The voluntary role is expected to require a considerable time commitment – a likely minimum of three days each month over an initial three-year period, with the opportunity to apply for a second term.
Who the Board is looking for
The Board is looking for someone who:
- Has a strong connection with Ryde through living, working or playing a prominent role in the community and does not hold an elected political office
- Is passionate about improving opportunities and quality of life for local people
- Can bring people together, build consensus and inspire collaboration
- Has leadership experience and the ability to think strategically
- Will act independently and in the best interests of Ryde.

Applicants are invited to submit a supporting statement of no more than 500 words explaining why they would be interested in the role, their connection to Ryde, the skills and experience they would bring and examples of leadership, partnership working or community engagement. A CV may also be included.

Applications close at midnight on 30 September 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal meeting with existing Board members before attending an interview with a panel including the MP, Police and Crime Commissioner and senior Isle of Wight Council officers. The successful postholder would be expected to start in January 2027.
