Strings Bar partners with BBC Introducing Solent to promote emerging music talent

Strings Bar and Venue has announced a new partnership with BBC Introducing Solent that will bring rising stars of the southern music scene to the Isle of Wight.

The collaboration, named Sounds of The South, will feature monthly live events, offering audiences the chance to hear some of the most talked-about emerging artists from across the region.

Bringing new music to the Island
The partnership is part of Strings’ ongoing commitment to support grassroots music and provide a platform for up-and-coming talent. BBC Music Introducing, which launched in 2007, aims to discover and champion new music by giving unsigned and independent artists a chance to be heard on local and national BBC radio.

Artists upload their music to the BBC Uploader, and local presenters and producers, such as those at BBC Radio Solent, review submissions and select tracks to play.

Strings becomes one of the first grassroots venues in the country to work directly with a BBC Introducing show in this way.

A curated line-up with local support
Presenter Steph Nieuwenhuys is working closely with the team at Strings to handpick artists for each month’s event.

A Strings spokesperson said,

“We are so excited to be able to work with BBC Introducing.

“There are so many amazing upcoming artists in the south and who better than Steph to help curate the events.

“Our aim is to ensure equality and diversity is represented across these gigs, along with an Isle of Wight act that has also had radio play on Steph’s show.”

First event on 3rd July
The first Sounds of The South event takes place on Thursday 3rd July and features three acts: local singer-songwriter Ruby, Portsmouth-based indie rock band Oxygen, and garage pop four-piece Wave Chase.

The spokesperson added,

“This is an opportunity for local musicians and artists to grow their networks as well as support other emerging music.

“We hope we can encourage music lovers to discover their new favourite acts . . . you never know what heights they will reach.”

Advance tickets are available from the Strings website. Doors open at 7:30pm.

The event is 16+. ID required.
