Tate Kump completes solo sail for Cancer Research in 7.5 hours raising £10,000

Sixteen-year-old sailor, Tate Kump, has successfully completed his ambitious 60-mile solo sailing challenge in support of Cancer Research.

On Saturday 30th August 2025, he set out in his ILCA dinghy and crossed the finish line in an incredible seven hours and 35 minutes (it was thought it could take between 12 and 14 hours). His route demanded careful judgement, as he steered between storms to complete the course.

Over £10,000 raised
The challenge was not only a test of sailing skill, but also of determination to make a difference. Tate has now raised over £10,000 for Cancer Research, surpassing the total he originally set out to achieve.

His efforts have been supported by many who followed his journey and contributed towards the cause.

A determined effort
Completing such a distance in a small ILCA dinghy is a feat in itself, but achieving it against unsettled stormy weather conditions added to the test. By completing the sail in under eight hours, Tate showed both stamina and commitment to his goal.

The successful challenge follows months of preparation and fundraising, which began earlier this year when he first announced his plan.

Making an impact
Tate’s achievement has not only raised significant funds, but also awareness of the work carried out by Cancer Research. His story highlights how individual determination can be turned into meaningful support for vital causes.

Three cheers for Tate and all who supported him!
