As well as being used by parishioners, the paths through the churchyard are an important thoroughfare for villagers accessing the nearby doctor surgery and primary school.
The work follows a full safety audit on the college’s road network and parking areas — commissioned by the local authority — which resulted in a number of recommendations to improve safety.
The petitioner said it had nothing to do with the police investigation or Coroner's Inquest and that the road was recognised as one of the most dangerous rural roads in the country.
