An icy fog settled across many parts of the Isle of Wight on Wednesday morning, clinging to hillsides and pooling in valleys.
The conditions created a striking contrast between higher ground and the low-lying areas beneath the cloud.
Fog across the Island
For most people, the day followed its usual rhythm despite the cold and mist.
For filmmaker Paul Knights, a routine afternoon errand took an unexpected turn.
From shopping trip to hillside vantage point
An intended visit to the supermarket became a spontaneous decision to head up to Stenbury Down.
Instead of carrying shopping bags, he brought his camera to see how the landscape looked above the fog hanging over Upper Ventnor on New Year’s Eve.
Capturing a rare perspective
From the top of the down, the fog formed a soft, shifting blanket below the higher ground.
Paul Knights chose to spend several hours filming the scene as light and atmosphere subtly changed.
A moment to pause
The resulting footage offers a calm and expansive view of the island in winter.
Sit back and enjoy the scenes captured during an unplanned but memorable afternoon.
