Freshwater and Yarmouth CE Primary, St Mary’s Primary School (Ryde), Bembridge Primary, Alverstone WI and Ventnor Rugby Club will all run checkpoints, when scores of people cycle the Isle of Wight Randonnee with Mountbatten Isle of Wight, on Sunday, 6th September 2026.
While the £15 entry fee (including a medal on completion) will go to Mountbatten Isle of Wight to cover the cost of running the event, donations gathered at the checkpoints will be retained by the schools and organisations that run them, ensuring Randonnee keeps its community feel.
How to take part
This will be the first time Randonnee has been run by Mountbatten Isle of Wight and there are around six weeks to go, which means it’s time to lock in, sign-up and start your fundraising journey.
Your sponsorship will help support Mountbatten’s 24/7 compassionate care for people dealing with death, dying an bereavement. 85 per cent of that care is in people’s homes and through day services and outpatients at the John Cheverton Centre, with the rest on the inpatient unit in Newport.
Mountbatten reaches around 70 per cent of all deaths on the Island (compared to a national hospice average of around 30 per cent).
The route
Cycling the Isle of Wight Randonnee with Mountbatten means taking on 100km of beautiful Isle of Wight countryside. Start and finish at the checkpoint closest to you.
Participants cycle clockwise around the Island, incorporating a climb of around 1,500 metres.
New cycling kit for 2026
For 2026, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s partnership with premium cycling apparel specialist, Stolen Goat, has resulted in a range of bespoke cycling kit: jerseys, in Mountbatten colours and sporting the iconic sunflower, a t-shirt, a bandido and a cycling cap.
The much-loved collectors’ pin badge continues to be a vital part of the Randonnee experience and this year’s design will be available to buy on the day.
A new chapter for a long-standing event
Formerly run by The Wayfarer Cycle Touring Club and proudly not a race, the Isle of Wight Randonnee has been a staple of the cycling year since 1985.
Mountbatten was asked to run Randonnee, amid fears it would otherwise have to end.
