Isle of Wight second most ‘Instagrammable’ place in the UK for AONBs, research reveals

Recent research has placed the Isle of Wight as the second most popular UK destination on the photo-sharing social media platform Instagram, when it comes to AONBs.

The new research, which analysed hundreds of travel hashtags on Instagram reveals which Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) and National Scenic Areas (NSAs) are most popular to Instagrammers, as well as a list of hidden gems.

Recognised with UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Status in 2019, Isle of Wight residents are proud of the incredible scenery and enjoy sharing it with visitors.

Grogan: Hope it encourages more people to appreciate the AONB
An important factor for tourism, 50 per cent of the Isle of Wight is listed as an AONB. Richard Grogan, Lead Officer, IW AONB said,

“This is great news. It is particularly appropriate that the beautiful landscapes of the Isle of Wight, that have inspired artists, poets and writers for centuries, should inspire new art forms and creative expressions such as the photos on Instagram.

“I hope that the shared experiences and memories encourage more people to appreciate the Isle of Wight AONB for years to come.”

Myles: We are very lucky to live, work and play in such a beautiful place
Will Myles, MD at Visit Isle of Wight added,

“The Isle of Wight is a very special place, I am not surprised where the Island features on this list, those who know, know.

“We are very lucky to live, work and play in such a beautiful place, the work of the Island’s AONB ensures that Islanders and visitors alike can enjoy everything the Island has on offer knowing it is protected and looked after.”
