Changing Police priorities and how resources are allocated are part of the new ideas that are being worked on alongside the recently appointed new Chief Constable, Scott Chilton.

Speaking today, Cllr Karen Lucioni, Cabinet member for community safety said:

“I have been working hard to get the necessary Policing support in place for our Island and have persisted in asking the PCC to visit for a vital meeting with our residents so that they can put their questions and concerns directly to the PCC, without any barriers and on any subject they wish to find out about.

“I am delighted Donna has agreed to personally attend a community meeting in the very near future and I look forward to her visit.”

Recent news
Just recently, the PCC announced a possibility of re-opening of Ryde Police Station, and said it was part of ongoing considerations.

Cllr Lucioni has indicated she would like the West Wight area to also have a Police station open.

Jordan: Resources need addressing too
Cllr Phil Jordan, Ward councillor for Ryde Town Centre said,

“I welcomed the news and believed that it is important that Ryde Police station was open, but I am also concerned that resources to combat low level crime such as vandalism and anti-social behaviour needed addressing too.”

Closed by previous PCC
Donna Jones, the current PCC was elected in May 2021 and is due to serve for four years in the role. It was under the previous PCC, Michael Lane that Ryde Police Station was closed.

Cllr Lucioni added,

“This is your chance to talk directly to the PCC and I would encourage anyone with interest and concerns to attend on the evening and participate.  There are no restrictions on topics and issues that can be discussed.  Come and take a unique advantage of this important opportunity for residents.”
