The Venice Biennale is arguably the most prestigious exhibition in the world, a pageant of contemporary art since 1895.

More than half a million people visit the Biennale over the six months it remains open, and in 2022 this also included Isle of Wight artist, Teresa Grimaldi.

Grimaldi: Thrilled and proud to see the Isle of Wight represented so joyously
Teresa mentioned to News OnTheWight that whilst at the celebrated Biennale last month, she’d seen a photograph that she recognised as being shot on the the Island.

The Ventnorian explained,

“I was delighted to discover photographs of people dancing by my favorite photographer, Martin Parr, on a recent visit to the Venice Biennale.

“As the exhibition continued I was thrilled and proud to see the Isle of Wight represented so joyously in his wonderful photograph taken at Ryde during Isle of Wight Pride 2018.”
