A new online directory launching this week aims to make it easier for Island residents to find local, trusted suppliers of home energy improvements.
The Wight Energy Directory lists providers of solar panels, battery storage, heat pumps, insulation and EV chargers, alongside advisors on energy efficiency and grant funding.
Cutting through the confusion
Anyone who has searched online for energy upgrade services will know the frustration of wading through Mainland firms, dead-end websites, and marketing companies that harvest contact details rather than offer genuine help.
Local non-profit Wight Community Energy Limited developed the directory specifically to address that problem.

Wight Community Energy Director, Laurie Tennant, explained that,
“Similar directories exist up and down the country instilling confidence in people who wish to save energy but are unsure where to start.”
Only local firms need apply
The directory carries only businesses with an active presence on the Island – a deliberate decision to rebuild public confidence after years in which poorly-applied national schemes and cold-calling operations have put many residents off seeking help at all.

Laurie Tennant said the directory,
“The Wight Energy Directory will only display organisations with an active local presence.
“We believe this service will provide reassurance for residents and a boost for local businesses working in the energy-efficient home sector.”

Good for residents, good for business
The directory serves homeowners, renters, and landlords alike, and its focus on Island-based firms means it also supports the local businesses working in this growing sector.
