Hovertravel has updated its freight service pricing by introducing a weight-based charging system.
The ferry company, which operates the fastest crossings between Southsea and Ryde, made the change after consulting closely with its freight customers.
The previous system, which based charges on the size of goods, has now been replaced to provide what Hovertravel describes as a more accurate, fairer way to price deliveries.
More transparent and cost-efficient
According to Hovertravel, this new system ensures that customers pay only for the actual weight of their goods. The aim is to support individuals and businesses that rely on quick, cost-effective movement of goods across the Solent.
Julie Horrocks, Head of Business Development at Hovertravel, said,
“We’ve spent the past few months consulting closely with our freight customers to understand how we can better support their businesses.
“The move to a weight-based pricing system is a direct result of that collaboration.
“Our aim is to offer a more tailored, flexible and competitive freight service that reflects real-world needs. We know we are the fastest freight ferry option and we want to ensure that we remain competitive in a crowded market.”
Flexible and frequent crossings
Hovertravel offers up to 60 crossings a day, with same-day delivery, and foot-on and foot-off options that do not require a driving licence or vehicle insurance.
The service is particularly useful for time-critical deliveries. Current users include pharmaceutical distributors and suppliers of car parts like windscreens, both needing fast and reliable transport.
Part of a wider strategy
Hovertravel’s investment in improving freight services is part of a wider plan to strengthen its position as a leading cross-Solent operator for both passengers and goods.
