Tommy Brentnall’s ‘Sandown Survival’ exhibition explores town’s future through community engagement and art

Islanders are invited to help celebrate the culmination of the Sandown Survival artist residency with Tommy Brentnall at Boojum and Snark on Saturday 13th September from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Inspired by Charles Darwin, who began On the Origin of Species while staying in Sandown, Tommy has explored ways in which the town could, would, and should evolve.

The exhibition is the result of a residency and workshops with the community, where they were invited to delve into a “what if?” scenario for Sandown’s future.

Brentnall: It’s helped me to develop new ways of looking at people and places
Artist Tommy Brentnall said,

“It’s been really exciting to work on a sustained project, engaging with the community in a more meaningful way over a period of time – something I haven’t had a chance to do before.

“People seem really committed to imagining a vibrant future for Sandown, and it’s been cool to bridge connections between different sectors of the community.

“I’ve found it’s helped me to develop new ways of looking at people and places.

“Thank you, Sandown.”

Where and when
The Sandown Survival exhibition will be open Fridays and Saturdays at Boojum&Snark, 105 High Street, until Friday 31st October 2025.
