The Optimists to perform at Strings Bar and Venue for BBC’s Sounds of the South

Isle of Wight band The Optimists will perform on a lineup as part of a collaboration between a Newport venue and the BBC.

The band will perform for Sounds of the South at Strings Bar and Venue on Thursday, 7th August 2025.

Sounds of the South
The event sees the Island venue partner with BBC Introducing Solent, offering emerging artists the chance to perform at the grassroots music venue.

You can get tickets on the website.

The concerts are curated with artists who have been played on the radio as part of BBC Introducing.

Also performing on the day are LLOREN and Emilia Tarrant, from the mainland.

Inaugural edition
Strings Bar and Venue previously held the inaugural edition of Sounds of the South in early July, with a lineup that featured Isle of Wight singer-songwriter Ruby.

The Optimists will be the Island representative at this month’s showcase.

Commenting on social media ahead of the gig, The Optimists said,

“We cannot wait! See you soon!”

The Optimists’ latest single, Love Sick Loner, was released in May and came ahead of an appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival, where they pulled a crowd to the Hipshaker Tent.

Later this month, on 24th August 2025, they will support Australian group Full Flower Moon Band in Southampton at Heartbreakers.
