Help Feline Welfare give feral cats a decent life on Isle of Wight

Nikki Hazelgrove – the founder of Feline Welfare – has been rescuing both domestic and feral cats since 1980. She shares this appeal to Islanders for new homes for eight feral cats ranging in age from seven months to adult. Ed

Feline Welfare have been trapping a colony of feral cats and kittens at a waste disposal site on the Isle of Wight since mid-September.

We have removed 22 cats, nine of which were kittens.

The Isle of Wight RSPCA Animal Home in Godshill kindly took five of the kittens into their care for us, and four of these are now in loving domestic homes, which is amazing and we are so grateful to them for their help.

We still have our wildlife cameras in-situ and this will be the case until we feel there are none left at the site.

Survival of the fittest
It has not been an option for any of the cats to be neutered / spayed / microchipped and released. It is a far from suitable area to release back to anyway as there are too many health risks and hazards.

It is the survival of the fittest, the ones who perish more often than not will go unnoticed

Seeking safe outside homes for eight cats
This has been a mammoth task, but we are now at the stage of desperately seeking safe outside homes for the eight remaining feral cats. Their ages range from seven months to adult.

Because they are feral, they are looking for outside homes at private stables or farms (if there are no cats there already) smallholdings etc.

Get in touch
You are very welcome to call us anytime on (01983) 521 778 for more details if you feel you can help the plight of these cats. They are all health checked/neutered and microchipped.

Please, please, please if you feel you can give these cats their life back then do get in touch.

Ferals deserve a decent life as do our domestics, but we really can’t do this without the help of the Island Community.

Fundraising appeal
We have been running a fundraising appeal on social media to help us with the veterinary costs, cat food etc for this colony.

This has raised £1,250, which is amazing and we would like to thank the Island people very much for supporting us in this way, as well as all the moral support we have received also.

Feline Welfare is run totally by volunteers, we are a ‘no frills charity’ and all money donated goes to benefit Island cats directly.
