Local band 5 Degrees North to open Isle of Wight Festival mainstage

The local teen rockers, 5 Degrees North, will open the Isle of Wight Festival mainstage on Saturday 21st June.

Wight Noize is one of the longest running band competitions in the country, launched and run by Platform One College of Music, with the first being 23 years ago. Applications opened in February and required local artists aged between 16-24 to submit a range of assets that were to be shortlisted for a live performance.

Stiff competition
The Wight Noize 2025 final took place on Wednesday 30th April at Strings Bar and Venue in Newport. The five shortlisted acts took to the stage to perform four of their best tracks to a live audience and a panel of industry judges. They included Georgia Nicole, Mikalan, Ruby, Willowfly and 5 Degrees North.

Judges included Josh Robinson of LMSUK/BBC Introducing, Chris Simmons of Smithereen Music Group, session musician Jess Baker, songwriter and musician Leo Van Dyke, Dan Wavell from Solo Agency and Claydon Connor from Strings Bar and Venue.

Following a high standard of performances from all of the acts, the judges took their notes to compare and discuss an overall winner. It was this process that eventually resulted in 5 Degrees North taking the 2025 crown.

“Thank you so much to everyone that supported us”
The band were quick to take to social media to after the announcement,

“We can’t process this right now, but tonight we won Wight Noize!!!

“Thank you so much to everyone that supported us and what an amazing job by the four other artists. We are overwhelmed and so proud.”

The band will share the bill with other acts including headliners Stereophonics, The Script, Busted and Razorlight.

In addition to their mainstage opportunity, the band will also appear alongside the other live finalists on the Platform One Stage over the weekend.
